Employee Spotlight: Jessica James

How has your career grown since joining Arterra?
I was promoted earlier this year! Arterra has supported me with knowledge sharing and mentorship as I've learned to take on new challenges and I couldn't be more fortunate. The day to day of my career is fun and filled with optimism thanks to all the awesome people I work with!

What motivates you?
The creative process. I enjoy synthesizing our clients’ passions and desires with the land and all the constraints that come with it are supremely satisfying. Plus, our projects are never boring!

What or who inspired you to pursue a career in landscape architecture?
Once I found out about Landscape Architecture and the endless opportunities for artistic expression were my main inspiration to go for it. I love that this medium allows me to use my skills as a visual artist; the different design assignments and materials to use are endless. I also enjoy that what I create also serves a function.

What has been your favorite project so far?
There is a project where the client wants to grow food and make wine to sell at the farmers market. She's also an artist that has a really cool style and ambitious design ideas. I'm excited to see what direction the project goes, I think something really unique and artsy is going to come out of it.
