Employee Spotlight: Chris Kupka
How has your career grown since entering the landscape architecture field?
I have learned so much over the past few years. I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients on a wide range of project types. Each project is a huge learning experience, because even the projects that seem similar at a glance are actually very different. I’ve also had the chance to grow as a designer and coworker, slowly evolving from student to more experienced student who is able to (hopefully) share some of my knowledge with my workmates.
What motivates you?
I’m motivated by all the bad design in the world. It makes a great argument for why good design is so important. And it makes me want to design things that are not only functional, but also beautiful.
What inspired you to pursue a career in landscape architecture?
I grew up in the mountains of Colorado and loved (and continue to love) spending time outside. I’ve also always been into art and design. When I heard about landscape architecture it seemed like a great blend of the two and I decided to give it a try.
Which project are you most excited to be working on?
We have a relatively new project in Napa that I’m really psyched to be working on. The site is beautiful, the clients are super engaged and fun to work with, and it’s moving at a quick pace. When things move quickly it’s really exciting to see your ideas and hard work taken off the page and transformed into a physical space that you can experience.
Who is your favorite artist?
At the moment I’m very into this painter, Will Martyr.
