Heather Clauss
Senior Designer
Heather joined Arterra in 2023, as a senior designer. With roots from the South Shore of Long Island and parents who instilled values of tending to the land and playing outside, she gained an early appreciation for cultivating outdoor spaces.
While her early years on the East Coast were foundational, California was calling and Heather moved to the Bay Area in 1996 and never looked back. Seeking to gain a broader perspective in unfamiliar places and cultures, she traveled extensively throughout Asia, Europe and the Americas which inspired her to begin thinking outside the box. Heather's career path has been eclectic: spanning technology, the wine industry, design and a masters in landscape architecture from UC Berkeley in 2006. She has worked with various Bay Area design firms on a range of public, institutional and residential projects. Through her work, she aims to create beautiful, functional and meaningful spaces that offer an emotional connection to the broader landscape while honoring the unique cultural, ecological and architectural character of each site. Heather thrives on working closely with clients to help them realize their vision through creative problem solving and innovative design.
Heather lives in Napa and can be found experimenting in the kitchen, riding her bike through the hills, putting her hands in the dirt whenever possible, and exploring new places with her husband and two children.
