Tonia Wall
Senior Designer

Tonia joined Arterra in 2023, or should we say re-joined! As Arterra's very first employee, Tonia was a pivotal member of the studio 20 years ago. After grad school and exploring landscape architecture at various scales over the years, returning to the studio has felt like coming home.

A Bay Area native, Tonia has a BA in English and an MLA in landscape architecture, both from UC Berkeley. She has been in the field on-and-off for more than two decades, with over 10 years of experience in residential landscape design.

She finds landscape architecture to be the perfect marriage of creativity, technical challenge, and the opportunity to develop rewarding relationships. It feels great when clients report back that they love their landscape and it’s become an integral part of their family's lives. Tonia also enjoys working on projects of varying style and scale. She’s drawn to both formal gardens — for their structure, use of pattern, and manicured, restful quality — as well as those that feel like an integral part of the home and surrounding landscape.

A long-term resident of San Francisco, outside of the office, Tonia is raising twin teens and one feline overlord. She loves live music, partner dancing, restoration projects, 80s vinyl, farmer's markets, baking pies, and the NYT Spelling Bee.
